Let me set the scene. It’s 4:00am, I just got a text from Michael that they were heading to the hospital. Caitlin was woken up by contractions at 3:30am and knew it was the real deal. Knowing that they had a longer drive to get there than I did, I worked on getting my gear ready and when I hadn’t heard another update decided I’d better head that way too just to be safe. I asked him to alert the security team that I would be arriving shortly and jumped into my car. I got to the hospital right around 5:20am, grateful that the security was so kind as I hauled my camera gear through to the room number they gave me. Arriving to the maternity wing I found the main door locked and after the few minutes it took to get buzzed in I saw a nurse rocking a toddler yell “RUN!” I quickly pull out my camera as that I had preset with my flash and started documenting her labor without even taking off my black puffy winter coat. Caitlin’s bed was up high, surrounded by nurses and doctors, I worked quickly to capture the scene knowing it could change in a moment.

They announced she was at about 8cm, I took a steadying breath and I took off my coat.

Everything was happening fast!

A few minutes after I arrived she began explaining that she had the urge to push and with the provider confirming that her cervix had fulled opened she worked so hard to bring her sweet boy into this world.

Her team was strong and so encouraging, reassuring her that she WAS doing it, her boy was almost here!

& by 6:30am he arrived!

Perfect in every way and so very loved.

Cue the pure bliss - golden hour!

Their provider was so excited to show them the placenta and eager to give me a tour too!

With their labor kicking into high gear so quickly they rushed to the hospital with their little one too! She was such a delight to have near for the immediate postpartum period, and oh so cute!

Welcome to the world dear Rohman, we’re so glad you’re here! and thank you to this sweet family for inviting me into their birth space and sharing their story with you.
